Ian is newly appointed as Professor of Practice for the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Most recently, he was at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, and has also taught at Central Missouri University, the University of Missouri – Kansas City, and Florida State University. He is an accomplished actor and director, playing roles ranging from Arlecchino to Macbeth, and directing such diverse plays as Cymbeline and The Rocky Horror Show.

While he has directed fights around North America, highlights include the North American premier of Lord of the Flies for the Coterie Theatre in Kansas City and You Can Lead a Horse to Water in Nassau, Bahamas. Ian has also published articles on historical stage fighting and performing violence in Shakespeare
