Currently Professor of Theatre (acting and theatrical combat) at University of Michigan, Eric has been a master teacher at institutions including Juilliard, Carnegie Mellon, and Dartmouth College. He also served as Interim Head of Acting and as Associate Dean at California Institute of the Arts. Fredricksen began his career as an actor and stage combat choreographer at the prestigious Guthrie Theatre in 1971.

He has worked as an actor and choreographer at many major regional theatres and in New York and Los Angeles, including the Guthrie, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Bucks County Playhouse, Indiana Repertory Theatre, The Long Wharf, Seattle ACT, The Folger, The Seattle Rep, and The Manitoba Theatre Centre of Canada. He has worked with the New York Shakespeare Festival, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Dallas Shakespeare Festival, and the Stratford Festivals (Canada and Connecticut). He's worked directly with some of the leading directors in the country, a few of which include Joseph Papp, Michael Langham, Des McAnuff, John Hirsch, Jean Gascon, Arvin Brown, Libby Appel, and Stein Weinga of the National Theatre of Oslo. Fredricksen has choreographed numerous luminaries, including Christopher Plummer, Morgan Freeman, Holly Hunter, Denzel Washington, John Lithgow, Frank Langella, and Don Cheadle.
