A past president of the SAFD, Allen works out of New York City. On Broadway he has staged the violence for Saturday Night Fever, Jekyll & Hyde, and Angels In America among others. Off Broadway he has worked for The New Group, Second Stage, Playwrights Horizons, The Manhattan Theater Club, The Public Theater, and The Theater For A New Audience. In regional theater, Allen works for Center Stage in Baltimore, The Shakespeare Theater, The Denver Center, The Cincinnati Playhouse In The Park, and The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival. For television, he has staged over 750 episodes of shows for ABC, CBS, NBC, and HBO. Allen is the author of Fight Directing For The Theatre, and producer of the series The Complete Unarmed Stage Combat Library. He has been on faculty at The Juilliard School, The Stella Adler Conservatory, and The Lee Strasberg Institute, and is a frequent guest artist at colleges and universities.
