How do I create/update my SAFD profile/directory listing
A few important notes about your SAFD profile:
Privacy and Preventing SPAM email
Unsolicited email remains a signficant problem in the websphere. There is a balance between having information about you available to increase your legitimate networking and professional goals, and protecting yourself from unwanted attention from illigitimate sources. The most common form of Internet harrassment comes from unsolicited (SPAM) email. In an effort to offer the widest options for displaying information about yourself on the SAFD web site, the following explains what we show in our directory lists by default, and what entirely optional information fields you can add to your profiles. We would encourage you to use only email addresses that you have setup for receiving general Internet email. You can always add an email address for this reason using one of the many freely available email services, including Google GMAIL, Yahoo Mail, etc. Just remember, any optional profile field you complete will be available to all site visitors. The choice of what to show people is entirely up to you.
- Only members in good standing are listed in the SAFD membership directory listings.
- If you hold multiple designations/ranks, you will appear in all applicable lists. For example, if you are both a Fight Master and Certified Teacher you will appear in both the Fight Master and the Certified Teacher directory lists.
- The following fields appear in each SAFD directory listing:
- Name
- Email address (CT ranks and higher)
- State
- Link to your SAFD profile page
- Beyond the fields listed above, with the exception of Governing Body and Regional Representatives directory listings, the following fields are optional. Any optional field you fill in will be added to your public profile page.
- Name you would like shown in your full profile page (Professional Name. Please, no cutesy user names)
- Head shot image (highly recommended)
- Contact email address
- Optional title for your profile page
- Contact telephone number
- City
- Your SAFD region (i.e., Southeast Region)
- Affiliations (i.e., Unions or other organizations)
- Social networking links (Facebook, Linkedin, etc.)
- Web site address (http://yoursite.com)
- Bio (a concise bit of information about you. Interests, professional achievements, goals, etc.)
- Site visitors will be able to click on your name in any directory listing you appear in and view your full profile page.
Here is how you create/update your directory listing and SAFD profile in six easy steps:
STEP 1. Log in to safd.org
- You must log in to the safd.org site first. To login select the "login" link under the MEMBERS ONLY tab as shown below.

- You will be presented with a login screen with fields to enter your safd.org site user name and password.

- Once you have logged in you are ready to go on to the next step.
STEP 2. Navigate over to your account page
- Select the "My Preferences" link from the Members Only tab as shown in the image below. This will take you to your account page.

- As shown below, click on the "EDIT" link near the top of your account page. This will take you to your account edit page.

STEP 3. Completing your profile
- Scroll down the page a bit and you will see a group of fields called "Contact Information" as show below.
- Fill in your first and last name in the "Full name" field.
- Fill out all remaining fields that you want made publicly viewable. If you fill one out, it appears in the directory listing and your full profile page.

STEP 4. Fill in your BIO information (optional)
- Scroll down some more until you see the section called "Bio" as shown below.
- You can add additional information about yourself in this field like a concise CV, resume, or other stuff.

STEP 5. Adding an optional head shot image
- Scroll down some more until you see the section called "Picture" that contains the upload picture field as shown below.

- Ideally, you should upload a recent head shot of yourself that is 125 pixels x 125 pixels in size.
- If you attempt to load an image that is larger than that, the system will attempt to resize it.
- If the image you are uploading is more than 128kb in file size, you will get an error back when you try and save it. If you don't know how to crop an image, visit this site: http://www.picresize.com/ and they will do it for you for free!
- If you are not satisfied with your image, you will be able to delete it and upload a better one at any time.
- Make sure and save your information before we move on from here. The save button is located at the bottom of your account page.
STEP 6. Check your new listing in the directory
That's it! Now navigate over to your directory list. If you are, for example, a fight master, click the link "Fight Masters" under the tab called "Directory" at the top of the page and look for your listing. Listings are, for the most part in alphabetical order by name, ascending.

Once you find your name, click on your name field. It is a link that will take you to your full profile page. Others will be able to do the same thing.
Remember, you can always update your profile using the same method as listed above. Have, questions? Need help? Just contact us.
