President's Letter

Welcome to The Society of American Fight Directors!

For those of you who are already familiar with the SAFD and its efforts welcome back; for those of you who are new to our organization, I hope that you'll find the SAFD and this web site a valuable resource of information on stage combat. Founded in 1977 by David L. Boushey, the SAFD is the largest and oldest non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to the art of stage combat. The SAFD has members all over the globe and in all aspects of the performing arts.
Our members work in theatre, live stunt shows, opera, television, film, and even the video gaming industry. As well as our continuing activities in the professional realm, SAFD members provide stage combat training at many of the nation’s premiere actor training institutions. Our ranks include actors, directors, dancers, singers, stuntmen, teachers, historians, academicians, armorers, sword cutlers, and many of the most respected fight directors in the American Theatre. The Society has something to offer anyone interested in safe and effective theatrical violence. Membership is open to all, and I encourage anyone with an interest in our art form to consider joining our ranks. Please enjoy the web site and all it contains.
