Greetings and welcome! I’m Advanced Actor/Combatant Richard Hedderman and I’d like to thank you for taking a moment to explore the Society’s New England region web-page.

Among other developments, I’m pleased to report that Certified Teacher, Robert Walsh in partnership with Advanced Actor/Combatant and fencing instructor L. Stacy Eddy, have established the Stage Combat Studio at Bay State Fencers in Somerville, MA where they will periodically be offering classes in various weapons forms. This Boston-area facility ranks as the best—and only—venue for SAFD-staffed public stage combat training in the New England region. For more information, contact Stacy: Phone: (617)970-6255; e-mail: lseddy@earthlink.net.

In other news, Maestro J. Allen Suddeth ’s Fight Directors Training Workshop, previously held for many years at the Celebration Barn Theatre in South Paris , Maine , has moved to the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem . Allen explains that the program will benefit from the NCSA’s School of Drama ’s abundant rehearsal and performance space. Dates for the 2006 workshop are July 31st through August 12th. For more information, contact Allen by e-mail: nyfgtdirctr@aol.com.

For my part, I am not at this time actually living in New England , but am currently based in Milwaukee where I’m a Lecturer in Stage Combat at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee . Nonetheless, as I‘ve sustained many contacts in New England and periodically travel back for fight direction and related projects, I happily continue to serve the Society as Regional Representative for this area.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or news—I’d be pleased to hear from you. Twice a year, on May 1st and November 1st, I file regional reports for publication in the SAFD news letter, The Cutting Edge. At these times, I welcome updates on your stage combat and theatre-related activities. And if you should find yourself in the Milwaukee area, please don’t hesitate to call or stop and say hello.

Again, thanks for checking in. Stay in touch and fight safe!
