T. FULTON BURNS (Certified Teacher) & (SDC) is currently the Director of Acting & Performance at the University of South Alabama’s (USA) Department of Theatre. Prior to his arrival at USA he instructed at The University of Montana and Illinois College. He has performed as a guest artist/instructor at The University of Nevada Las Vegas, Columbia College, Auburn University, South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts & Humanities, and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts along with other schools across the United States. He attended Winthrop University where he earned his B.A. in Theatre and completed his graduate work M.F.A. at Western Illinois University (WIU) specializing in Directing for the Stage. His directing credits include, but are not limited to, The Complete Works of WLLM SHKSPR (abridged), The Serpent, and Picasso at the Lapin Agile. Fulton has also received the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival’s Certificate of Merit for his work as a director on Amadeus at WIU, along with Cyrano de Bergerac, Anything Goes, The Three Musketeers, and I Hate Hamlet at USA. Fulton is also a Union Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographer’s Society (SDC) recognized for his work as both a Choreographer and Director. Fulton began his theatre career as a dancer in the Southeast region in both ballet and modern dance with companies like Charleston Ballet Theater and Greenville Ballet, to name a few. Since this time, he has furthered his movement training to include physical comedy, mask work, and he is recognized as a Certified YogaFit Instructor for Levels 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5, along with being a Certified Teacher with the Expressive Actor Method. Burns is also a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) and an award winning Advanced Actor Combatant. He is also a Certified Instructor (Associate) with the Dueling Arts International (DAI) making him one of only 8 professors in the United States to offer skills tests with both organizations (SAFD & DAI). Fulton has recently been awarded his Teaching Certification with the National Michael Chekhov Association (NMCA). Fulton’s fight director work has included choreographed fights for Extremeties, Othello, The Beaux Stratagem, Romeo and Juliet (KCACTF Certificate of Merit for Fight Direction with NWMCC), The Illusion, Man of La Mancha, Hamlet, and Children of Eden (KCACTF Certificate of Merit for Fight Direction with USA) among others. Also, Burns has worked professionally with Moises Kaufman as an assistant director, collaborated/performed with the Living Theatre, and has worked with Cirque du Soleil’s production of Quidam.
